EMPIRE'S TRADE.

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyrigh Received 5.50 p.m., July 26. London, July 25.

The Times, in an article on preferential duties, says that if Britain returned to protection and levied preferential duties on imports, it would be statesmanship of the highest order not to impose the latter on American products, thereby rivetting two branches of the English-speaking race in an unbreakable, virtual alliance. It would be impossible for Britain to discriminate successfully in favor of Canadian products against American, as it was sure to provoke a tariff war.
