SEAMEN DESERT AFTER RATS START TO CLEAR, CHARGE AGAINST THE MEN. (Per Press Association^ AUCKLAND, last nighty In the Police Court, in a charge of insubordination against five- sailors oi the barqlue Mary L. Cushing, the master of the vessel, Walsh, stated that . the vessel did not leak In smooth water, but made three to twelve inches of water when loaded. She experienced 'a gale after she left Newcastle for Honolulu. The men were at the pumps for over two hours, but the water was never more than seventeen inches, the steam pump keeping that under. The crew, demanded that the vessel proceed to the nearest port, and stated that the rats were leaving her. The vessel was leaking 3 A to 4 inches an hour in smooth water in harbor. One thousand tons of coal had been discharged upon the recommendation of the surveyors.
