' , The Lewis Company complete their Gisborne season to-night, when an entire change of programme will be presented. There should be a crowded house. Mr J. M. Butler secured 30 head of dairy cattle for Messrs Fisher and party, for the Motu.—Opotiki Herald. ' * The Gisborne Bowling Club have decided to hold a sooial at an early date as a wind-up to the season. A strong committee has been appointed, and the function promises to be a great success. A general meeting of the Gisborne Cooperative Building Society will oe held in the Church of England Schoolroom toI n igbt at 8 o’clock, for the purpose of disposing two appropriations, totalling £6OO. The Empire Skating Rink will be open at t he Theatre Royal to-morrow evening, and a large attendance, is expected. An attractive programme will be provided, and pati'ons may look forward to enjoying a pleasant evening. .

At the Police Court yesterday morning John Latchfotd was charged with failing to comply with a maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate child. He was remanded to appear at Christchurch on Monday, 27th inst.

Arrangements are well in hand for the Rechabite conversazione, to be held in the Academy of Music on Monday evening next. A good programme is being prepared, and with ping-pong various parlor games a pleasant evening should be spent.

The Bailie, a Glasgow paper, reporting a revival of “ Our Boys ” last month at the Theatre Royal, thus comments on a young lady, Miss Rees, well known to many in Gisborne “ Miss Rosemary Rees makes her first visit to Glasgow on this tour. Miss Rees is a native of New Zealand her father, Mr W. L. Rees, being the author of the “Life and Times of Sir George Grey ’’—and came to this country something over two years ago. Her first engagement was with Misß . Fannio Brough, with whom she toured in “ Peg Woffington," and she has since played with great success in the larger provincial towns as well as in London. Miss Rees can ply ber pen with effect, too, as is testified by her clever little curtain-raiser, “ The New Gun, 1 ’ and by her short story, " The Girl from New Zealand,” in a recent number of The Kmg.
