RACING CONFERENCE.

WELLINGTON, yesterday. The Racing Conference continued to-day. Sir William Russell (Hawke’s Bay) moved that a levy of one pound for each day’s racing be made on all registered clubs towards the cost of administration of Metropolitan business.
The motion was negatived. Mr Reed (Otago) moved that only clubs which on one day’s racing give
£IOO in stakes shall be entitled to .vote at the election of a representative to the. Conference.
This was negatived
Mr Herries moved, “ That this Conference is of opinion that an appeal from the decision of the stewards of the Metropolitan Club is ‘ exclusive of local business ’ within the meaning, of rule 169, This was carried. WELLINGTON, last night. At the Racing Conference the Executive was directed to take steps to improve the forfeit list, in order to
more effectually enforce the disqualification list, which was stated to be -in a most unsatisfactory condition. The Committee appointed to go into the question of dates and permits reported as follows .
Totalisator Permits
The Committee recommends that the same permits be allotted for the ensuing season as in the past, with the exception that the Palmerston Racing Club is entitled to a permit held last year by the Waikouaiti .Club.
In the event of any further permits being available, they should be allocated to the following Clubs Whang-arei, Papakura, Dannevirke Waverley, Waitotara, Waikouaiti. Dates of Race Meetings.
North Canterbury, Club 1 not to race on September .27 th, as it clashed with the Geraldine meeting, and if not racing >on the date originally applied for, to submit a date for the Chairman’s approval. That the Wellington Racing Club be allotted October 21 and 24 for their Spring meeting Palmerston Club, January 1; Northern Wairoa, December '26 and 28. That the Nelson Jockey Club, whose dates are objected to by Greymouth on behalf. of Reef-ton, shall submit dates for the Chairman’s approval. That the Westland Racing Club select other dates for their autumn meeting, and that the South Canterbury Club be permitted to change their autumn meeting to April 13 and 14. A petition was read from a number of professional riders, asking the Conference to enquire into the bona -Tides of certain gentlemen riders. The matter was referred to the executive to draft a rule on the subject. _ . A scheme dealing with the appointment of trustees to administer the trainers’ and jockeys’ provident-fund .was adopted, by 30 votes to 9. Sir George Clifford, th e Hon. J. {D. Ormond, and the Hon. George McLean were appointed Trustees. Sir George Clifford wap re-appoin-ted Chairman of the Conference,
