Per- Press Association., . WELLINGTON, last night. . Constable John Johnston, court orderly at the Magistrate’s Court, shot himself at ;8.30. this morning. He fired:two shots in the region' of .the heart. He is said to have been depressed of late, being 'a severe sufferer from indigestion. Johnston was a well-known footballer. in Auckland and Wellington a few years ago, and was generally, popular. Some years back he was specially
promoted for courage displayed in arresting a sailor who had shot a mate and was still armed with a re- 1 volver. . ' ■; VV: ' - Later.
At the inquest concerning the ddath of Constable Johnston, who shot himself this, morning, the evidence showed that deceased had suffered acutely from indigestion, hut had never given the least sign that he intended to take his life. . A verdict of suicide while temporarily deranged was returned, the •jury expressing sympathy with deceased’s relatives, .who live in Auckland. _________
