DODGING THE REGULATIONS.
A MAN’S LIFE SACRIFICED
, Per Press AUCKLAND,- last night. Parker and Casey, owners of "the tug Akaroa,. were fined £lO, . and costs, for neglecting to provide a lifeboat. The prosecution -described the offence as a deliberate breach of the law, defendants having borrowed a fully-equipped lifeboat to pass the survey. Subsequently, the Akaroa proceeded to sea without a lifeboat, taking a boat used for rafting, which was quite unsuitable for life-saving. A seaman was lost overboard, and the Akaroa, returning, a lifeboat was again borrowed. Defendants, stated that the tug-owners were , petitioning the Minister of Marine to' be relieved, from providing regulation lifeboats.
