The Telegraph Department has received reports showing that exceptionally heavy weather has been experienced in Marl- - borough, Westland, Canterbury, and . Otago. At Blenheim all three rivers have been in flood, and the northern portion of the town was under water yesterday to the depth of 3ft. This is the first flood that Blenheim has had sinoe the completion of the flood protection work somo four years ago. ■ • Telegraphic communication in Canterbury was yesterday restored between Christchurch and Temuka, but from the latter town southward the wires were in terrupted. The rivers north and south of Christchurch were in high flood on Saturday, but on Sunday they were falling, and the weather in Christchurch began to break towards evening. No advices could bo received from •"Westland yesterday, but in the evening communication was restored between Weilington and Greymoutb. At Lyell heavy rain fell all day on Saturday. The roof of the telegraph 1 office was lifted by the wind. It was got 1 into position again, and tied down with ' fencing wire. > • 1 Christchurch, last night. 1 At 11 a.m, it was intimated that tele- ' grams from Christchurch and further e South cannot be accepted by the tele- v graph office till further notice, owing to ■ the extraordinary lino interruptions. “
