A Blue Book published shows that Lord George Hamilton concurred in Lord Curzon’s recommendation that Great Britain should bear the half of £786,000, the cost of increased pay, necessited under the changed system of enlistment and raising 50,000 instead of 85,000 recruits in India. Mr Brodriok was not willing to burden Great Britain with the proposed oost. Lord Alverste, arbitrating in the case, threw the whole charge on the revenue of India.
