ANOTHER WATER SCHEME.

g (To the Editor of the Times). s Sir, —As there are several schemes for l " the supply of water for this town to be '* considered at the next Borough Council, I 6 beg to suggest yet another, which, so far '• as I know, has not yet come before them, f and might be worthy of consideration. As 3 the large steamers whioh so frequently > call at this port are seldom more than half 3 full of cargo, why could not an arrangement be made with them to carry it from places in, say 400 gallon tanks at a rate to 1 be fixed upon between the shipping people and the Council ? There are plenty of lighters, and the lightermen would only be too pleased to put up at a reduced rate of lighterage, say 4s a ton, equal to about 6s a tank or it might be pumped out of the tank on the steamers into the lighters. If the weather was such that the steamers could not call we should not want it, for it usually rains on such occasions. If you think anything of this scheme kindly let me know and I will go carefully into details and let you know them later. I should be glad to answer any questions that any ratepayer or the Council may ( ask. Why, Mr Editor, if this scheme is ( adopted we shall not want to borrow 1 money at all for dams, etc. Each one can t have their own tank and send it away to t be filled when required. If my scheme r is adopted all I ask from the Council is I £2O, and I will furnish them with full d specifications as to the working of the 11 scheme.—l am, etc., Itl A StJPPQHXER OF THE WiTER SCHEME, I]
