THEFTS FROM RAILWAY STATION
(Per Press Association ) Christchurch, last night.
At the Magistrate's Court- to-day the charges against three railway employees of stealing goods from the station, was heard before Mr Huselden, S.M. Robert S. Flett pieaded guilty to the theft of goods to the value oi A 3 10s. An application for probation ,vas made, and the accused was remanded until Tuesday, but the Magistrate said that he could not hold out much hope of probation being granted. Francis E. J. Hiddiestone, charged with the theft of articles valued at £2 Is, and Joseph Ferran, whose alleged thefts amounted to A 4 is 6d, were convicted and remanded until Tuesday for sentence.
CHARITABLE AID
At a meeting of the Samaritan Home Trustees to-day, the Chairman said that during the past two years the Home had expended A'lsoo, of which the Charitable Aid Board had contributed .£4OO. Of this subsidy only A“200 had come from the local rates, which tho Chairman thought an argument against the contention that the Home was a burden on the community.
