Auckland, last night. A fatal tram accident occurred to day to a man named John Cavanagh, cook at the Marist Bros.’ school. He fell off the car whilst in motion, striking his head on the road and sustaining concussion of the brain. He was removed to the hospital, and died four hours afterwards. The gold returns for Auckland district for the past three weeks total £68,111. The total for the half-year was £450,000, showing an increase of £84,830 over the first half of 1902. The directors of the New Zealand Insurance Company have declared an interim dividend of 2 per cent per share. Westport, last night. A miner named Eager died in the Westport hospital this morning as the result of injuries sustained by a fail at the State coal mine. Ho fell a distance of 15 feet, and a heavy plank fell on top of him, crushing him badly. Deeeased was a married man with a family of seven. James Edge, maintenance contractor at Lyell, suicided last night by hanging himself to a tree. Napier, last night. The Education Board to-day decided to recommend the Department to establish a district high school at Woodville.
