COLONY’S HARVEST
(Per Press Association.) Wellington, last night. Tho returns for the last season’s harvest in the colony are now available. The actual yields uro considerable heavior than estimated ; as, for instance, wheat, which was estimated at 28 bushels per acre, returned 38-37. Oats were estimated at 35 bushels, and returned 45, and barley, estimated at 37, returned 40 69 bushels per acre. Tbs uroa of wheat for threshing was 194,355 acres, and tho total yield is computed at 7,457,915 bushels. The amount of whoat returned on hand at October, 31, 19U2, was 1,230,780 bushels. The amount of wheat and flour imported between November, 1902, and February, 1903, was 69,520 bushels. The amount of wheat and Hour exported between Novembor, 1902, and February, 1903, was 76,940 bushels, and the consumption in the eamo period for a population of 850,000, was reckoned at the rate of Bix bushels per head per annum—l,7oo,ooo bushels. This left available for all purposes in February last 6,971,275 bushols. The estimated quantity required for seed is 400,000, ana for the consumption for tho period ending with February next year 5,160,000. The apparent surplus is 1,411,275 bußhels.
