Tho Industries and Commerce Department has received tho following cablegram from tho Agent General, dated London, Juno 27th:— Retail business in mutton is dull, but the market is firm at tho advance adiised last week, and is.beia„ affected by tho expectation of light arrivals in future. Tho average price to day of Canterbury mutton is per lb, Dunedin, Southland, and Wellington Moat Export Company 35 Bd, other North Island brands old, Liver Plato 3|d. Tho lamb market is steady. The averago price to-day for Canterbury brands is ojd p, r lb, brand; other than Canterbury on. Tee beef market is dull. Tbo average on, to-day for hindquarters of New Scalar, In r-f is 4!d, feres Transactions in buttor continue to be very limited. Considerable quantities bavo been stored. The price to day of New Zealand, butter is 94s per ewt., Danish 103 s, Russian 87s, Argentine 82s. The cheese market is q'-rict at 03s per cwt. On account of tho high prices the hemp market is dull. Tito price of New Zealand hemp, good fair ion grade, on spot, is nominally P" v ton, July to August shipments A3O per ton. The cocksfoot market remains very flat- at the values quoted last week.
