The S?ost tonight publishes .xfraets from tho protests of tho Judges against the alterations made by the new .ablo o orecedence, by which Ministers of ibo Crown rank above Judges of the Sop. erne Court. The Chief Justice, writing _ under date 23rd ins!,, in reply to the notification of the changes, says the precedence of the Chief Justice is most affected, and he canHOC in' blamed if ho assumed that such a Üblo 1-r.d a personal reference. He concluded : “ I am prepared, and desire to resi"o my office, so soon as arrangements aro tnacio for equitable compensation on my loss of office. As has already oeen stated in a petition presented to His Majesty, the terms of my patent of otuce bavo been violated, and I am therefore justly outitlod to compensation on my retirement.”
