V/AIIIIRERE AND WAIMATA WATER SCHEME.

Sir, —At the request of a large number of ratepayers I submit t.hu following com parative estimates of the cost of Mr Mestaycr’s ’Waihirerc water supply scheme and tho Waiuiata scheme. Mr Mestayor’s estimato is for supplying Gisborne alone, while the cost of the Waimata scheme includes Gisborne, Whataupoko, Haiti, and the freezing works. In view of the forthcoming poll the statements should bo carefully digested by ratepayers.—l am, dtc., W. Douglas Lys.var.

Annual interest on above at 44 per cent ... ... ... 2,073 10 Deduct revenue to be obtained from the Gisborne Freezing Works 600 0 1,473 10 Note. —From these figures it will be seen that Whataupoko, Haiti, Gisborne, and the Freezing Works will all be supplied with water at an annua! cost to the ratepayers, spread over the three districts, of £1473 iOs, instead of £2205 under Mr Mestayer’s scheme for supplying Gisborne alone from Waihirere.
