Bannerman, said only the first ten million of the Transvaal war contribution loan was guaranteed. Sir Michael Hieks-Beach suggested earmarking certain Transvaal receipts, otherwise there would be a risk ol losing the second and third contributions. Mr Chamberlain admitted there had been valuable finds of diamonds in the Transvaal. Sir Michael Ilicks-Beach has been elected chairman of the Select Committee appointed to inquiro into tho question of incidence of the Income Tux. A conference of members of tho llouso of Commons interested in tho iron, steel, and engineering industries and electricity, meets on Thursday to arrange a vigorous crusade in support of Mr Chamberlain’s policy It is expected that one hundred and thirty members of tho Unionist party will attend.
