SKATING CARNIVAL.
Thoro was a crowded attendance at tho 1 .Empire Skating Rink last evening, when a fancy dress carnival was held. The i auccoss of tho ovouiug rellectod great credit on tho proprietors, Messrs Loornb . and Morse, who did all in their power to promoto the comfort of tho skaters. Thore was a considerable amount of iutorest taken in the races, and tbo evolutions performed by somo of tbu competitors afforded spectators plenty of merriment. Tbe first race was a handicap, for wnicb there were 15 starters, and resulted in a wiu for A. Sawyer, with 42. Corbett second, Tbo obstacle race was won by M. Cox, W. Little being second. Mr S McCluro, who impersonated a young lady, was tbo coutro of much attraction, and his antics were much enjoyed. A competition Which attracted mueli attention was that for best lady and gentleman skaters. A number of couples took tbo floor, and fiom tho lino exhibition ci skating given the judges bad a ditih-uit inalter to decide. Tbo event was won by Miss C. Boyiau and Mr A. Skipwortb, after a splendid exhibition. Miss Buchanan and Mr Vosper weco second. Tile principal feature of the evening was tno fancy skating given byMr Skipwortb. His performances were received with rounds oi applause. Among tho luodt uoutiblo costumed were . Miss Drillor, Highland lassiej; Miss Tills, Ivy; Mr Vosper, advertising medium, Mr M. Cox, cook; Mr Butler, lady; Mr McClure, ft country girl; Mr Pritchard, clown; Masters Browno and Gordon, frogs; Mr Hoyle, country gontleman; Master Bloomhold, coon , Master Bloomfield, Spanish dancer; Mr A. Coloman, ■ soldier; Mr Stubbs, mounted rifleman; Mr Corbett, mounted Hussar; Mr P. Hoyle, Chinaman; Mr Jones, cook; Mr A. Sawyer, “ You can get it cheaper at Adairs ” ; Mr G. Hines, Irishman ; Mr C. Cox, nigger; Mr Friar, dragoon ; Willio Tills. “ Soapy Tom.”
