CLOSING DOWN OF 'THE MA QUEEN.

(Per Press Association.) THAMES, last night.

Owing to inability to raise tiie necessary capital locally, the May Queen, one of the principal mines in the Thames district, to-day stopped contracts. The mine will he closed down probably, pending an er‘leaver to float a new company at Huiiic. A flotation option will he given. An arrangement .has practically been completed for the extension of the main Moanatairi tunnel, a most important prospecting work, a distance of five thousand feet. The object of the tunnel is to intersect several rich and important reefs, over six hundred feet below the present lowest working. Ten thousand pounds have been raised for the work.
