The Premier in speaking to a newspaper representative to-mgut said that Government had not aecideu oil a nominee for the speakership ot House of Representatives, out he personally considered that Mr Guinness’s claims to ihe position were paramount. LICENSING COMMITTEE.
The Wellington Licensing Committee to-day renewed the licenses for Clyde, Quay, and Foresters’ Arms Hoteis, wmch are to be reouiit. Toe question of renewing licenses for the Imperial, Masonic, Western, and Prince of Wales Hoteis, was adjourned for three months.
RELIEF FUNDS,
During the year ended March 31, the
Wellington Benevolent Trustees expended £1277 in indoor relief and £4685 in outdoor relief.
A TECHNICAL DEFENCE,
The Chief Justice to-day decided in favour of the defendants in the action against the Wellington Harbor Board to recover £303 damages caused to the barque County of Ayr, while moored at Jervois quay in August last, on the oround that the writ had been issued a day too Eoon.
