To-night at tho Drill Hall tho citizens of Auckland gave a farewell ball to His Excellency the Governor and Lady Kanfurly. Greatest efforts hud been mado to make the function a complete success, and the ball proved one of the most successful ever held in Auckland. Tho decorations and all arrangements had been carried out most fully, and tho scone was a decidedly brilliant one. Between 700 and 800 peoplo wore present.
CHRISTCHURCH NEWS. ROLLKSTON MEMORIAL. Per Press Associatiov, CHRISTCHURCH, last night. At a meeting of the Kollcston Memorial Committee it was announced that the sum of nine hundred and (ifly pounds was in hand for a statue. It was decided to ask the AgenlCenerai, Sir .John ll all, and Mr Alfred Saunders to make eni|uiries in Rngland in regard to artists and what their fees would he for a sturue, also to make a collection of photographs of the late Mr Rollesl.on and forward them to the gentlemen mentioned. The Chief Health Olficer lias written asking the local Council to indicate in what direction the Health Act should he altered. The Council decided “ that it lie a suggestion to the Municipal Association that it should 'attempt to procure legislation empowering Hospital Boards to spend money in land and buildings, throwing on Hospital Boards the onus of providing for the accommodation and treatment of infectious diseases.”
