The Conn of Appeal ordered a ■new trial in the case of Wallace and Lady Cook, in which Wallace obtained £SOO damages for slander. The ground on which a new trial was asked was Wallace’s action in blackmailing one of the witnesses.

The plague hospital has been closed.
