TRAGIC SUICIDE.

A tragic suicide occurred this afternoon at a hoarding establishment in Lower Hobson street, a miner named tiutteridge, shooting liimsolf with a six chambered revolver. He was ulono in a back bedroom at tho tune, ami when discovered was lying dead on the bed. Deceased is an elderly man, who had a great deal of cxpuriouco on tho goldfields, Only a minute before tho shot was heard ho wus talking rationally to an acquaintanco. There was a bullet wound in tho right templo, and the six chamberod revolver lay on the fiuor. Deceased lmd lived for about two mouths in tho boarding-house, apparently doing no work. Ho was peculiar in his manner at tho time. Tho police found tho following letter on the body :— •* To John Prost, Shortland street : As I am tired of life, 1 want you to do mo a favor. 1 moan you to see that my moiioy and somo of my things in my portmanteau aro sent Home to my sistoi, Mrs Thomas, Cave 45, Vent road, Totting, Surrey, England,—Your unhappy friend (Signed), Thomas Gutteridge."
