FIRES.

New Plymouth, last night. Afire this evening completely destroyed the new residence built for Mr Edmunds, solicitor, on the Breakwater road. Being outside the borough there is not a water supply there, so the services of the fire brigade were of no avail. The ,owner was on the eve of removing to the house. It is believed to be insured for one-fourth of the value. The loss over that is between two and three hundred pounds. Christchurch, last night.
To-night a fire broke out in W. P. Towneud’s chemist shop in Colombo street. A large quantity of stock was destroyed and the back portion of the building gutted. Dr Patterson’s rooms above the shop were also gutted. The property was owned by the executors of Garrick and Cowlishaw, and was insured for ,£BOO iu the New Zealand office. The insurances on the stock are not known. Dr Patterson’s loss, which is not covered by insurance, is estimated at between ,£2OO and £3OO.
