A no ~e: nso convention of delegates from all parts of Auckland district was held to day. Over 100 delegates were present. A paper written by Mr A. S. Adams, of Dunedin, President of the New Zealand Alliance, entitled 1 Out Legislation Programme, ’’ was read by llcv. A. fiaull. A resolution was adopted “ That a public house bar be brought under the provisions ami restriction of the shop Pours.’’ It was explained that this was meant to refer to the weekly half-holiday. •V motion was also carried that the hours of hotels be 13 a.m. to it) p.m. maximum, and 8 a.m. to t 3 p.m. minimum, extension or curtailment oi minimum to bo uecided by the respective licensing committees, \ paper entitled “ The abolition of barmaids,” by Miss Jessie Msckuy, was read ; 1V Miss A. J. Coley. This was enthusias•i Ply received. A thiid paper prepared Mid read bv Mr A. Thorne was entitled “ One License one Bar,” after which followed a discussion on the papers, when resolutions in favor of opinions expressed in them wore carried. Other papers were .ilso read and discussed. A resolution war. passed congratulating the Council of the li.K. Alliance on the celebration of the .übiiee of the Society. Tic Koiiceiisc Convention passed resolution? ■ '.ndeuining sly grog selling in the u'i ~r C luntry, and recommending the ! •■•inporanee party to try to effect a change ju the law making four-sevenths majority sufficient to carry prohibition, instead of three-fifths, and regretting the Premier s expression of approval ot the abolition of elective licensing committees and opposing the extension of time betweon licensine polls.
' ° Christchurch, last night. T'ho Christchurch Licensing Committee met to-day. All the licenses were renewed, with the exception ol the Wellington Hotel. This application v/ns adiourned until next week, when evidence ,vill be taken regarding the management of the hotel. A petition signed by nearly SOO persons was presented, piajing for ID o’clock closing of the hotels, hut the Committee decided in favor of 11 o clock,
