NUHAKA NORTH NOTES.

A meeting of the Morere district school Committee was held in the schoolroom on Friday evening, 22nd May. Tho following members were present: Messrs D. Shaw (Chairman), W. Tail, J. Reynolds, N. McIntyre, N. Dyett, and J. Richardson. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read from the secretary of the Hawke a Bay Education Board, enclosing plans and specifications for the erection of a shelter shed on the school ground, A letter from Miss Biddles was read, stating that having been appointed a teacher in the Petor.e school, she desired to resign her position in the Morere school on the 22nd June. The Chairman stated that no tenders had been sent in for the work of keeping the school clean. Mr Tait reported having had a quantity of firewood split for the use of the school, also grass-seed sown on the school ground, and tlie boundary fence repaired. It was resolved that Miss Biddles resignation be accepted, and that the Education Board bo notified to that effect. Also that tenders should be invited for the work of erecting a shelter shed on the school ground. The Chairman was authorised to procure tlie necessary school requisites required, and also a quantity of material for tlie shelter shed.
!Mr Tail was appointed to countersign the School Committee’s cheques. The meeting then terminated. A meeting of the Nuhaka Tennis Club Committee was held in Mr Tint's iiouse on Saturday afternoon. Members present: Messrs G. Coop (Chairman), W. Tait, M. Shaw, and J. Reynolds. After transacting some routine business the Committee adjourned to the cricket ground, and selected a site for tennis courts. Mr Tait was requested to interview Mr A. Smith, with the object of getting the ground pegged off, and the work of forming the courts completed. A meeting of ratepayers was held in the Morere schoolroom on Saturday, 2drd May, for the purpose of considering M: Napier Bell’s amended report on Waiko kopu, and the question of borrowing foi I Harbor Works. There was a good at ' tendance from fcho various localities of the district, and also visitors from Napier and Wairoa, and much interest was manifested in the proceedings. Mr Proudlock vvue was elected to tho chair, and after explaining tho object of the meeting, Mr Napier Bell’s amended report on Waikokopu Harbor was read by Mr Gaddum. The report was considered satisfactory. Considerable discussion then ensued, in which Messrs Sloan, M. J. Joblio, D. Shaw, Gaddum, Walker, and the Chairman took prominent parts. Eventually it was proposed by Mr Walker, seconded by Mr Whitehead, and carried unanimously, that tho Waikokopu Harbor Board be instructed to prepare an empowering Bill, with power to borrow up to ,£12,000 over all that area between Gisborne and Wairoa harbor district boundaries, and the sea and Portland Island, to carry out Mr Napier Bell’s fourth or amended schemo for Harbor Works, and that tho sanction of Parliament be obtaiood to same without delay. A vote of thanks to the Chairman closed tho meeting.
