At ft meeting of the Canterbury .Jockey Club to-day tho following motions vvero carried “ (1) That it be a recommendation to the incoming committee to consider the desirability of reducing the amount of money given in classes for two-year-olds at present, 25 per cent, of the total stakes ; (2) R ia t the attention of the committee bo also called to tho number of sprint races in the programme, and to the desirability of reducing the same and encouraging long distance racing.” Tho Council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association this evening received replies to a circular issued by i} to affiliated clubs, embodying a proposal to bring out a team of English or American amateurs to tour tho colony. The majority of the clubs could not fall in with the proposal on account of financial reasons, and the Council decided to endeavor to bring tho project to an issue next year. Wellington, last night.
At a meeting of tho Management Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union to-night, it was decided to appoint Mr 11. Harris, of Otago, as the fourth selector for t he New Zealand team to visit Australia.
