SMALLPOX SCARE DYING OUT,
SERIOUS FLOODS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Ihmedin, last night. There are no fresh developments in connection with the smallpox scare, and the period for development since the departure! of the Gracchus having expired the health authorities do not expect tho occurrence of further eases from that source, and they have no suspects in view.
The heavy rain last night appears to have been exceptionally heavy in Tuapeka district. In Lawrence the channels proved inadequate to carry away the water, and several business places had their stock damaged, in some of the buildings Iho water' 3 rose to such a height that the tirebell was rung for assistance to vciuovo tho inmates. The railway was slightly damaged. Tho Cavershaiu Council lias agreed to contribute to tho erection of an intectioiis diseases hospital at a cost of i 11.700. It was urged that the whole of the eharitablo aid and hospital district should bear a proportion of tho expanse and upkoep.
