A boat was launched to search, but was unable to recover either the man or his body. Herman Ahrens, an old Waikato veteran, 63 years of age, died in a tram car when returning from the laying of the foundation stone of the Veterans’ Home to-day. Joan Bigelow, shipwright, sustained a severe injury to his head by a fall at the Calliope Dock. He was taken to the boa* pital. He is still unconscious.
