The jury gave a verdict for defendant in the libel action Swainson and Bevan v. John Hadtield, claim XIOOO damages on account uf statements contained in a letter puolished in the Otaki Mail. The juryadded that thoy were of opinion that the words used by defendant woro merely a defence of defendant against certain charges made against him _ by plaintiffs, and That the words complained of were used by way of argument to advance such defence. , , , , T . At the inquest on the body ot John Mon-ion, who was killed by falling off a building at Agahaurangft while removing rooting icon, a verdict of accidental death was returned, no one being to blame.
