DESTRUCTION OF FISH,

Wellington, last night. It is estimated that about 5000 bundles of fish were thrown into the sea during the past few days from the Wellington Fishing Company ’s depots in the Sounds and Cook Straits through rough weather interfering with the collecting steamers. STOWAWAYS. Dealing with a couple cf stowaways from London to-day, the Stipendiary Magistrate, Dr McArthur, said that one of the hardest problems Magistrates had to deal with in New Zealand was the question of what to do with stowaways. Accused pleaded for leniency, as they had worked during the passage. The Magistrate pointed out that he could order them to pay 21 guineas, but it would be absurd to think they could pay. Therefore he indicted a line of £b each, or 1-1 days, adding that if they were genuine in their desire for work they would show it during their period of incarceration, and when they came out thc-y would find plenty of woik to do if they were willing to takcwhatever was offered.

MINISTER OF LANDS. The Minuter of Lauds will leave for Auckland to-morrow. On bis way back he will visit Katvbia district in reference to land settlement in that part of the coloDy.
