ESPLANADE ROAD.
At the Cook County Council meeting yesterday a letter was received from the Borough Council, expressing a hope that the County would contribute to the Esplanade road when funds were available. Cr Harding said the work was very necessary. The Council was using the road daily, and if they could see their way to grant the money out of the incoming rates they should do so. Cr Gray: It is really burdening next year’s rates. Captain Tucker: The difficulty I see is that it is not a county road. Cr Cray : We have enough to do to keep our own roads open. Cr White : It is the road to the freezing works. Captain Tucker : They say we use the
Cr Herding : The county does more damage to it than anybody. Cr Gray : Does the borough give us anything for using our roads 2 The Chairman : No. I think the answer must be us before. Cr Harding said they should be straight, and either refuse or give an idea as to when the money would be available. The Chairman said the previous Council had in a sense pledged him, but he could not see his way to vote money now. Cr Murphy said the damage done to the Patutabi roads fairly balanced the damage
to this road. An amendment was carried, on the Chairman's motion, that the Council could not at present see its way to grant the money, the only dissentient being Cr Harding.
