BRIDGING THE TARUHERU.

COMMITTEE SET UP,

At the Borough Council last night Cr

Morrison mooted the subject of another bridge over the Taruheru river. He proposed that a committee consisting of Crs Somervell, Hepburn, Miller, and the mover make enquiries in the matter. Cr Johnston said that he understood Messrs Nelson Bros, would contribute

liberally to a bridge in Lytton road, which was the only one connecting with a road on the other side.

Cr Jones : There you get the question of site raised at once.

Cr Jobnstou said that tho principle was to help those who helped themselves, and if people would contribute liberally that was a strong recommendation. He understood that the Road Board was also favorable.

Cr Lysnar said that until they bad amalgamation it was only playing with the question. He went on to argue that by amalgamation a bridge could be obtained at a small cost to ratepayers.

Tho Mayor said there was no need for amalgamation to deal with the question of a bridge.

The motion to set up a committee was agreed to.
