A SPIRITED CONTEST.

Considerable interest was manifested in the biennial borough election for the return of nine candidates held yesterday, and throunhotst th; • -.v there was a steady stream of vote.« g ;-<g to and from the polling booth a: the Borough Council Chambers, .Ur W. .1. Quigley acted as returning officer, Mr ii. McKay poll clerk, and Messrs M. Jctmicgs. 1C Cogar, and D. Murray scrutineers. The total number 01 votes polled was not as huge as at the previous election. In 1901 nine hundred votes were recorded, whist yesterday the total was a little over eight hundred. The poll closed at 7 o'clock, and shoitly after l a.m. tho result v-is announced by the lie-turning Officer, Mr W. J.
