“ GOD’S OWN COUNTRY."
MISS BALGARNIE GIVES HER IMPRESSIONS.
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, April 27.
Floronco Balgarnio, interviewed, said : “ During the 24 hours since I landed in Sydney I havo seen rnoro signs of poverty, misery, dirt, drunkenness, and out-of-worknoss than during the whole 12 months I spent in New Zealand. You never see i working man in New Zealand sitting by the sido of a road eating with unwashed hands. The working man there is an aristocrat in the country, and has raised himself to a standard of comfort I never remember to havo seen anywhere else. Again, ono doesn't see the extreme of riches. On tho other hand you never see rags. There is not tliut aloofness and separateness betweon tho classes that is noticeablo olsowherc, I was impressed by tho simplicity of life in Now Zealand. T'boy take people more for what they are than for what they are worth. Tho fact of tho Sunday Closing Act being to a largo oxtont a dead letter bad much to do with
rousing tho prohibition sentiment. Tho success of tho movement was largely due to tho women’s vote.”
