By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchureb, last night. The question of sewing mistresses for country schools was before the Education Board to-day. Xo provision having been made for them in the Teachers’ Salaries Act it was resolved that the Department should be informed of the necessity for providing sewing mistresses for country schools, and that attention -bould again be drawn to the urgent necessity for paying an adequate salary, at least 50 percent more than is paid for manual and technical regulations. The application for a writ of habeas corpus in the case of Arthur Holmes was granted yesterday by Judge l>euniston on tne ground that the provisional warrant issued charged no offence against accused, then-tore giving the magistrate no jurisdiction.
