There was a large crowd at the wharf last evening as the Wuihi was going off to tne Waikare. Fitzgerald Bros.’ circus band treated the crowd to a few lively tunes, finishing up with “ Auld Lang Syne.”
Captain Skinner, of tiro schooner Aotoa, is spending a holiday at itotorua for the benefit of his health. Mr Iff. Brown, chief mate, is in charge of the vessel this trip. Captain Skinner will probably resume command when she reaches Auckland.
Two new members wore initiated at a meeting of the Ballance Juvenile Tent of ltcehabites held last evening, which was presided over by Bro. M. Doyle, Chief ..iuier. The balance-sheet lor the past quarter, which showed an increase both in funds and membership, was presented and adopted.
Yesterday Auckland reported a light S.W. breeze with cloudy weather. Napier advised W.N. breeze, blue sky ; Wanganui, S.W. breeze, blue sky with passim* clouds, lumpy bar; Wellington, N.\V° breeze, blue sky ; Christchurch, N.E light, gloomy ; Dunedin, W. light, blue sky ami passing clouds.
A lot of confusion was caused at the wharf last evening before the Waibi put off to the Waikare, on account of vehicles blocking the thoroughfare before the Harbor Board's new shed. Such a state of things should not exist, and the Board should see the Wailii is berthed at some other place than before the shed, so as to avoid uu accident occurring.
A meeting of the Gisborne Ten;, Xo. 1.0. K., S.U., was held in the Tent room h'.st evening, Bro. ij. troida worthy, Chief liulcc, presiding. The balance-sheet for tiie past quarter was read and adopted. The matter of the Friendly Societies' Conference was discussed, from which body the Te at resolved to withdraw, nothin" practical having been done by the Confer” enco since its inception.
