One of the most urgent needs in the new arrangements to be made in regard to the Bank of New Zealand is the abolition of the Assets Board, the properties being placed in the hands of the Bank for realisation. That is a point which Parliament ought to insist upon. It would be grossly unjust to tho shareholders, however, were Parliament to seek to obtain a larger interest in or control over the Bank than it possesses at present, and we certainly think that the setting up of a State Bank of the kind desired by the Socialists of this colony would be disastrous alike to our credit and to our prosperity.— Christchurch Press. The fact of Labor being badly led has been the undoing of the Labor Party everywhere. It has doomed it in New South Wales, it has brought itjinto disrepute in the other colonies, it has gained it the disapproval of publicists in Canada, and it will ultimately ruin it in New Zealand, unless a new policy is adopted. When the Labor party aims at something higher than the mere picking of chestnuts out of the fire it- will become a great power for reform in the State, but at present there are no indications that it has any intention of adopting a wider view.—Exchange.
