The weather wus fino. There was an onormous attendance, the Premier being amongst thoso present. Tho great attraction was the match botween Ribbon Wood and Fritz, tho latter being quite outclassed, Ribbon Wood winning threo straight heats and reducing the record in the third to 2min lOsec. The following are the results: Match for .£IOOO ; mile heats, best threo in five.—First heat: Ribbon Wood 1, Fritz 2 ; time, 2.14 1-5 ; div., £1 10s. Second heat: Ribbon Wood 1, Fritz 2; time 2.13 ; div. £1 10s. Third heat: Ribbon Wood 1, Fritz 2 ; time 2.10 ; div £1 14s. Middleton Handicap. McKinley 1, Senator 2, Phoenix 3. Won easily. Time 4.59. Div. £2 and £llos. Juvenile Stakes (harness), of 100 sovs. ; 1 mile. —Coral Hue 1, Quincy 2, Black Knight 3. Won oaslly. Time, 2.49 2-5. Dividend, £2 6s. TAUIIERINIKAU RACES.
(Per Press Association.) Masterton, Saturday. The weather was splendid for the first day of the Tauherinikau races. The attendance was good. The totalisator turnover was £5145. The results were : Hurdles,—Juryman 1, Testator 2, Raema 3. Won easily. Time 2.52, divs. £1 13s and £1 18s. Maiden Hack.—Scrip 1, Australasia 2, Utalba 3. Won easily. Time 1.4 4-5, divs. £3 16s and £1 Bs. Easter Handicap.—Plaidie 1, Volley 2, St. Eyra 3. All started. A splendid race. Volley made all the running, but was caught on the post and beaten by a head. Time 2.12 1-5, divs. £lO 7s and £1 11s. Hack Flying.— Valema 1, Good Intent 2, Hatley 3. Won comfortably. Time 1.17, divs. £5 15s and £1 14s. Telegraph Handicap.—Shrapnel Shell 1, Someled 2, Turepo 8. Won easily. Time 1.164, divs. £2 16s and 17s. Hack Welter.—Rebellious 1, Scrip 2, Katerina 8. All started. Won all the way.
