Two old age pensioners, females, were charged to-day with obtaining certificates illegally. One v. is- discharged and (he Other fined £22. ALLEG ED EMBEZZLEMENT. AUCKLAND, last night.

At; the Police Court, Gordon Bruce Matlies'ou, clerk, was charged and remanded on bail of £25, witli stealing £ l 10s, the moneys of James Reid, his employer. Application was made on behalf of the Crown Prosecutor for a substantial bail because the charge was connected with that against another clerk, and the hooks had been partly destroyed. There was a probability of further charges against filatheson. Bail was fixed at £25.

BREACH OF AWARD. AUCKLAND, last night.

In (he Arbitration Court, George Fowlds, clothier, was fined the minimum penalty of £5 for a breach of agreement in the tailoring ...trade award.

A PECULIAR DEATH. WELLINGTON, last night', ’A" peculiar case of death occurred at Mount. View Asylum yesterday. A patient who had been in the habit of cramming his mouth overfull with food did so yesterday, and despite the efforts of the attendants and doctor was choked to death. At the inquest, a verdict of death, due to suffocation, was returned.
