LICENSING ELECTIONS.

RICHARDSON IN THE COLD,

SCPer Press Association^ Auckland, last night.

But little interest was manifested in the Auckland City licensing election. Tbero wore 15,600 entitled to vote, but only 5950 recorded votes. Six men went to the poll, five members (moderates) who constituted the old comurittoo being elected. The rosults are : Craig 5034, Choal 4801, Casey 4794, Aicken 4674, Rossor 4382, Richardson 1828.

No groat interest was taken in tho olection of the Licensing Committee today, tho polling being small. . The complete returns are not available to-night, but it is almost cortain that tho moderates havo boon returned. Results so far are : Carter 536, Miller 519, Sinclair 511, McGregor 491, Milne 495, Campbell 465, Dash 446, Brown 443, Gillingham 432, Dohermann 422.

Invercargill, last night. The licensing committee for Invercargill elected to-day are : A. Bain 1660, B. B. McKay 1696, J. Muirhead 1580, F. Bose 1594, B. Paul 1560. They are all tomporanco candidates. The five defeated wore termed moderates, and mostly members of the committee for years. Tbo highost of thoße was Pollen 1279. The poll waß small

Dunedin, last night. Tho licensing olection tu-day excited considerable iutorest. Tho rosult in the city was the return of tho prohibitionist committee by a substantial majority, tho figures being : Camoron 6230, Dolautour 6227, Sinclair 6174, Wilkinson 6107, Begg 5988, olectod ; Burnett 5131, Gore 5142, Gourloy 5263, Myera 5173, Pinkerton 5048.

For Cavorsham tho prohibitionists also electod the whole five mombors. For Mt. Ida tho rotnrns aro not complete. Thoro is only ono temperance candidote, and ho is seventh on the list. For Tuapeka all the candidates are moderates.

Nelson, last night.

Nelson Licensing Committoo elections rosultod in the return of tho old committee, with tho addition of one moderate. Those elected wore, in order of polling : P. Beat, H. Attmore, W. Coleman, W. Akerston, and J. D. Bouko. The throo temporanco candidates who favorod reduction to ton o’clock licenses were defoatod, all receiving 482 fewer votes more or leas than tho lowest of the successful candidates. 2_For Motuoka tho old committoo of modoratos woro re-elected unopposed, tho members being : F. Baigent, W. N. Franklyn, G. Mucmahon, J. W. Rily, and J. Thomas.

Groymouth, last night. Tho election for tho Licensing Committee to-day was very quiet. The returns so far places Petrie head of tho poll, 820 ; Bignoll 724, Larkin 719, Flynn 700, Har greaves 685, Dr Mcßroarty 674. The others are tho Bov. Staco, McKay, Trestal, and Hanaen. It seems that the old committee with ono exception will again be returned, Hargreaves probably displacing McKay. No Prohibitionists are likely to bo returned.

Wellington, last night. In tho Wellington licensing city elections tho fivo reform candidates (as opposed to moderates) wore elected, namely, Rev. W. A. Evans, Mr John Smith, jun,, Dr Chappie, and Messrs A. H. Hoby and Wright. The total returns, subject to chocking by the returning officer, are as follows : Evans 5180, Smith 5149, Chappie 4926, Hoby 4911, Wright 4825, Cable 4428, Van Stavom 4321, Coffey 4061, Hudson 4012, Bolton 3530, Jansen 644.

Tho Nowtown licensing elections resulted in the return of five candidates comprising tho prohibition ticket, namely, Bov. G. Bond and Messrs Band, Mackenzie, Reid, and Collie. The following are tho figures : Band 2308, Bond 2305, Mackenzie 2286, Beid 2276, Collie 2267, Fullford 1195, Hayward 1184, McCarthy 1110, Patterson 1107, Porrin 1107.

For the Hutt, tho moderates’ tickot was elected.

Auckland, last night. For tho Waitcmata licensing election the eleven o’clock tioket aro loading. For Manakau tho moderate ticket is leading,

For the Waikouaiti licensing committoe a good deal of interest was taken, the fight being a straight-out one, with the result that a prohibition committee was elected, as follows: Muir 801, Fell 784, Nichol 767, Murray 740, Steven 735. There are two small returns to como, but they cannot affect the rosult. The next highest candidate was Charlton 687. _ For tho Caversham Licensing Commitieo the temperance party were elected : Wright 2139, Boid 2124, Fiddis 2901, Baltry 2053, Bev. Chandler 2051. The .highest moderate vote was Smith 1121. Mount Ida, with six returns to como, chows that Stewart, the only temperance candidate, is lowest on the list. Tuapeka has elected all moderates— Craig 684, Jeffrey 676, Mclntosh 509, Elder 488, Bivors 418. The next highest, JFaohe, polled. 407.
