FROM DROWNING,
Per Press Association^ Nelson, last night,
A narrow oscapo from drowning is reported from The Croixollos, Mr W. J. Stewart, of York station, went across the harbor to Whangarei in a boat accompanied by his little daughtor Florence, in order to get mails. Mrs Stewart watched the boat, which was considerably loaded. She wont indoors for a momont, and on returning could no longer see tho boat. With the aid of a glass she then saw that it had capsized, and that her husband and daughter wore struggling in the water. Bhe ran to tho shore and launched a frail boat, and rowed out a distance of three miles, not without very considerable risk. She roached the capsized boat, when she found her husband clinging with one hand to the boat and with the other supporting their daughter, who was then unconscious. Aided by Mrs Stewart, all got ashore, but Mr Stowart and the little girl had been in tho water for about two hours. The girl remained unconscious for some hours, but they are recovering.
