NAPIER, last night

About f> o’clock this evening, a label cr named Joseph Cosgrove was found lying on the Marine Parade, moaning, and apparently in great pain. lie staled that he had swallowed a bottle of oil of tar or killweed, which he had picked up, and I hat lie intended to kill himself, as hi.s Wife was dying in the hospital. The latter statement i« so far correct that the man’s wife is very iIL in the hospital. Medical assistance was immediately procured for Cosgrove, and an emetic administered, hut he died while being taken to the hospital. It is thought that the serious illness of his wife had preyed upon Cosgrove’s mind. Nicholas Wilson, aged 53, single, a laborer, of Hastings, committed sui-i cide at the hospital by cutting his throat. Deceased had been under treatment in the institution for four months for a growth on the chest and Hie fact that the case was hopeless, drove him to suicide.

At the inquest on the body of the man Nicholas Wilson, who committed suicide at the hospital on Saturday by cutting his throat with a razor, flic jury returned the following verdict : “ That the deceased, Nicholas Wilson, met his dcatli by cutting his throat while temporarily insane.” CARTERTON, last night. News has reached town that a man named James Smith, an old resident of C.Jarevillc, committed suicide by shooting himself.
