The weather was fine with a hot wind blowing. The attendance was fair. The New South Welshmen commenced tho day’s play badly, Mcßeth, Gregory, and Noble’s wickets fulling in quick succession. Thompson was bowling splendidly, while Duff was playing as freely as on Saturday. Hickson partnered Duff. His innings was lively but short-lived, playing Thompson on to the wicket. Seven for 175. The bowler had secured his three wickets for sixteen runs. Hopkins smote Bosanquet for three fourers in succession, making thirteen off ono over. At 187 Trott relieved Thompson, who took Bosanquot’s place. Tho second contury soon appeared. Hopkins played fine cricket, hitting seventeen off Thompson’s over. Duff took things more leisurely. At 230 Trott relieved Thompson, who wont to the southern oud. Hopkins continued brilliantly, his magnificent late cutting being frequent, and tho pair were still together at the luncheon adjournment.

Changes wero tried to break up the partnership after lunch. Thompson missod one from Hopkins. The batsmen had tho bowling at their mercy, Hopkins scoring twice as fast as his partner, his beautiful Btrokes oarning loud applause. After the third century had been recorded Hargreave, who had only bowled on over during tho morniug, took Bosanquot’s placo. Hopkins with a beautiful log glance secured his contury, tho partnership having more than doubled the score for tho first seven wickets. The bowling was quite demoralised, and tho field was troatod to tho hardest work that they had had for many a day. Trott was particularly relished by the batsmen, and runs were piled up monstrously, there being four hundred on the board in four hours. Burnup took up tho bowling, and in the second over Hopkins got leg before. Ho received a groat ovatiou ; eight for 411. Hopkins batted two hours and a quarter, and hit twonty-ono fourers. Pye filled tho vacancy. Shortly after tho tea adjournment Bosanquet bowled Duff. Tho retiring batsman was loudly applauded by tho Englishmen and the public for his splendid performance. Ho hit twenty fourers; nine for 430. Howell com monced by sending Bosanquet three timos in succession to tho boundary, 13 being scored off one over. Elaborate preparations wero mado for Bosanquot’s uoxt over, the field boingsent out in tho country, but the first ball dislodged Howell’s bails.
