Three Chinese were charged at the Police Court with being in poasessiou ot opium. Wong fioug was ouaiged witu having three tins, auu Pot Ah Pang seven uus, and Way Royal, alias An Louie, seven uus of the drug. Mr Cotter, on Deualf of the accused, pieauecl guilty, and asked the Court to impose a iigut penalty, as It was the first piusecution wnicu nad taken piace in Auckland.

His Worship remarked that a fine snouid be more tfiuu nominal, taking into consideration the fact that tne places seemed to have been used as opium smoking dens. He imposed a penalty ot £5 each and costs, ana pointed out that the maximum penalty was £SO.
