At 1 o’clock the sun appeared after tho h ea '.\ liiiu of the morning, but notwifchstanding the combined fact of sun and wind the wicket seemed heavy, and there was a plentiful supply of sawdust on hand, i Lt- attendance was very limited. Warr.or won the toss, and put the New South Wales men in, R. Duff and Trumper opening to Hargreave and Trott. Four sundries resulted off the former's first ball, lrumper commenced freely, but trying to drive one from Trott sent it hard to Dowson at mid-on; 1 f or 28. Noble joined Duff. Fivo were added, when Dull touched one in tho slips, Bosanquet making a brilliant left-handed catch. W. Duff came in to see noble caught in the slips by Trott without any addition to the score ; o fur 33. Sid Gregory and Duff played carefully. The latter scored a singlo, and then lifted one high to the off. Johnston, with a great run, got underneath ; 4 for 37. Hickson, a new comer, was clean bowled with the seoond ball ; 5 for 38. Trott having secured 4 wickets for 19, Hopkins' advent led to livelier cricket, the newcomer hitting 14offTrott's over. Gregory quietly reached double figures, then warmed up, and overhauled Hopkins. Ho made excellent leg strokes, but got leg in front to Trott; 6 for <3. Hopkins lifted Trott high, Johnston making another fine catch in outfield ; 7 for 80. Pvo and Kelly associated brought the century up. Thompson replaced Hargroavo, and tho fust bowler got Kelly almost immediately; eight for 104. Howell commenced with tho usual fourors. aud then hit Trott out of the ground. Howell put one up, but Warner failed to hold it, three resulting. Bye, playing fine cricket, mado top score. Howell lifted one to tho boundary, and Johnston caught it on the edge of the ground; nine lor 139. Mcßoth addod four, and then gave Johnston an oasy catch. Tho English fielding was vory good.

Warner nnd Burnup oponed vory cautiously, Howell sticking up the batsmen with his breaks. Burnup got eight to his credit when Ho played Mcßoth on to tho wicket. One for 13. Tho wicket was kicking a lot. Fane played Howell on strictly defensive lines. Warner, with the total at 24, had a life at W. Duff’s hands. Ho followed it up by somo fino clean hitting, fourers following in quick succession. At 39 Noble relieved Mcßoth, who took, Howell’s place. Warner, when playing the bowling with confidence, got his leg in front to Noblo. Two for 44. Taylor failed to score, Kelly stumping him. Three for 45. Fane, who was cutting finely and playing 6tylish cricket, was joined by Dowson. At 01 Hopkins replaced Noble, Pye going on instead of Mcßeth, but the bntsmon played out time. Tho scores were :
