ROLLESTON MEMORIAL
(Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, last night.
A meeting of residents was held tins afternoon, to take steps towards creeling a memorial to the late Hon. W. Roileston. The Mayor presided, and Mr C. (J. Bowen and others stated that the movement would he taken up throughout, the colony. It wat decided to erect a statue in Christchurch, and to communicate with Ihe friends of Mr Roileston and ask their assistance. RAILWAY CHARGES.
At a conference of representatives of flic Chamber of Commerce and Industrial Association, .it- was decided to co-operate with the Agricultural and Pastoral Association and Canterbury members of Parliament in an endeavor to get railway rates reduced on the Christchurch-LyHelton line, it was stated that the present rate was calculated on a seven-mile basis, instead of six (flie nearest mile), and that the charge was higher Ilian oil lines which had to compete witli water carriage, and that the movement would he non-political and merely in accord with the past policy of .agitation for legitimate reduction of freight rate in Canterbury.
