'men as to the river bans (uead s .Quay;, tne Association were anxious to pusn on witn tnat work, and tie tuougnt any obstacle iiad been removed, out ne now learnt nom tne faecretary that some objection had been raised. The Association was willing to consider their work as temporary and subservient to, what tne Council might do when they decided it was necessary, to widen tne road. Ur vvninray : Will it not requiro a lot of tilling in ? Cr Kennedy : No; there was plenty there. He would like to know from the Overseer what were the objections raised^ In reply to points raised, Mr. Morgan said ihat the Council had authorised soma gravel to be spread at the approach to the footbridge, but the gravel was not yet available. As to the nursery, his opinion was that the 1 ground was now suilieiently prepared to receive it, and the nursery would complete the cleaning better than anything else. As to the town river bank, it had lately been largely occupied by the builders. The bank was about the right position for some distance for the footpath. Tlis objection to any cutting down was the fear that storm water would wash the footpath away. It was resolved that the Overseer, Mr Darton, and Cr Kennedy should confer as to the work, so that there need be no further delay. Or Jones said there could be no objection to anything done if it was regarded as temporary work that the Council could alter if the need arose for more roadway. Cr Jones referred attention to the way in which the Recreation Ground bank was washing away, and said that the Overseer should see if he could devise any cheap, means to stop the erosion.
