COULDN’T HIT HIMSELF IN FIVE SHOTS.

Some excitement was caused in St. Stephen’s Avenue, Parnell, at 8 o’clock last evening by several revolver shots. A search discovered a young man on the ground and a five-chamber revolver by his side, all the chambers having recently been discharged. The man is said to have been a member of the New Zealand Contingent. lie gave the name of Robert Tait. Ho had been rejected by the young woman with whom he was keeping company. He was between 25 and 30 years of age. Admitted shooting at himself, and stated his intention was to die for the girl. £>r MacKellar made an examination and discovered no wounds. Tait was arrested on a charge of attempted suicide.
