REMARKABLE OAHU

(Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, last night. Another, step in the sequel to the Magorian-Laficy case was completed 10-nay. It lirst came before the Court in an action by Magorian to recover £IOO paid as a deposit in the puryhase of the Gridiron Hotel from Bailey, who carries on the Otago Hotel, on the ground that Magorian was drunk when the alleged sale was made Magorian succeeded, and the appeal is now pending. The police then prosecuted Lafiey for supplying liquor to Magorian while the latter was in a state ot intoxication. After hearing evidence at great length, Mr Graham, S.M., convicted Lafiey, and imposed a line of £lO ; with £9 costs. It was intimated that the decision would be appealed against. YOUTHFUL SHERLOCK HOLMES At the Police Court Richard Daniels, alias Drew, and Walter Goodman, alias Goodwin, were committed for tri a l for attempting to break into a produce store. The men were seen by a boy, who tried his hand at amateur detective work, and followed the men until he was able to point them out to constables. Goodwin. or Goodman, was then sentenced to six months jor being a rogue or vagabond.... This man has just served a sentence of twelve months. He got into a boarding-house at night, and was struck on the head with a club by one of the boarders, who discovered him. ,
