WAIHIRERE.
(To the Editor of the Times),
Sir, —I am astonished at tho Mayor's statement of Mr Boylan’s report. The Mayor knows very well that Mr Boylan’s report was calculated for two miles of watershed, whereas when measured for Mr Mestayor it was found to bo only a little over one square mile of watershed ; both ullowed for 7000 inhabitants. 'Mr Boylan from two square miles could only find 20 gallons per head, while Mr Mestayer cou'd find 40 gallons from a little over one square mile, and Mr Boylan says in his report that in seasons of drought tho water would havo to be economised to 10 gallons por head. If Mr Boylan is correct, Mr Mestayer’s 40 gallons would have to be reduced to a shade over 2£ gallons per head per day. I have a horse that drinks double that much every day. The Mayor said that Mr Boylan stated that he could got sufficient water at Waihirere for 20,000 people. How does this statement agree with Mr Boylan’s written report ?—1 am, etc.,
A. Y. Ross.
